Ashley said: "We had a very successful competition actually as a team with all of us from Leeds coming home with a medal.
"I competed at the World Championships two years ago in Poland but went out in the first round so this was a massive improvement.
"When I won the silver I was ecstatic, yet I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed because I was so close to being World Champion. I was getting loads of congratulations from the coaches and team; it was a wonderful feeling, I couldn't wait to text home and tell my family and coaches at Leeds."
Before jetting out to Mexico, the three met their hero Andy Sherry who was the first person in the UK to earn a black belt in shotokan karate.
He officially opened the new home of Leeds Karate Academy, on Bagley Lane, Farsley, where they train.
