A nursery school in west Leeds has been labelled “outstanding” by inspectors, with staff praised for creating a “happy and welcoming setting”.

Busy Bees Pudsey, known as Treetops when it was inspected, received an “outstanding” rating in every single category in a report published this week by Ofsted inspectors.

The nursery even boasts a “children’s council” in which pupils discuss what activities they enjoyed that week.

The report, which was published by Ofsted on Monday, October 31, said: "They are encouraged and supported to be independent at every opportunity. For example, there are self-care stations situated around the rooms and cups and jugs for children to pour their own drinks.

The report added: “Children are highly motivated and remain engaged in activities for long periods.

"Activities are exciting and stimulating and have been carefully planned to provide suitable challenge.

"As a result, all children make excellent progress and are well prepared for their next stage of learning, including school.”

It added that staff talk to children about the world around them, such as talking to children about where the conkers have come from and how they have come out of their shell.

Inspectors also said the nursery has strong links to the local area, evidenced by the on-site community food bank.

Parents are extremely complimentary about the nursery,” the report added. “They praise the settling-in period and are delighted with the bonds their children have made with the staff.

"This means children settle into nursery quickly. Parents are particularly pleased with the updates they receive on their children's development. There are ample opportunities for parents to share their feedback with the nursery.”

"Staff know the children extremely well. They work effectively with external agencies to ensure that the needs of all children are met, especially children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.”

"There is a children's council who meet on a weekly basis to discuss what they have enjoyed doing and what they might want to do differently the following week.”
