Bramley and Swinnow men on 'fake £20 notes' charges

Two men from Bramley and Swinnow appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court charged in connection with an alleged large scale banknote counterfeiting operation.

The charges concern the alleged production and printing of forged £20 notes to a value in excess of £180,000.

The men were arrested and charged after addresses in Bramley and Beeston, were raided.

The two men who appeared before the Leeds District Court were Lee Mitchell, 38, of Broad Lane,Bramley, Leeds, and Christopher Brooke, 28, of Swinnow Gardens, Swinnow, Leeds.

Mitchell and Brooke were jointly charged with three offences.
One of the joint offences was the alleged production of counterfeit £20 notes to a value of more than £180,000.

A second specimen offence alleged that Mitchell and Brooke were in "custody or control" of a counterfeit Bank of England note.

The third offence with which they are jointly charged was being in "custody or control" of equipment used in the production of counterfeit banknotes.

Mitchell was charged with passing counterfeit banknotes to a value in excess of £80,000. They were remanded in custody until June 24.
