A Bramley gymnastic club is celebrating after winning gold in the Northern & Midlands Team Gym Championships in Edinburgh.
Leeds Esprit competed excellently in their very first team gym competition, competing in the primary regional level.
They were up against teams from the north of England and Scotland. They took first place on floor (scoring the highest regional primary floor score in the whole of Britain), first place on tumble and second place on trampette, walking away with an overall gold. It was a very exciting competition, and gave the gymnasts valuable experience for the future.
Teamgym involves teams of between 6 and 12 gymnasts competing as a team on Floor, Trampette and Tumble. The floor routine involves the gymnasts performing required gymnastic elements together with dance. The tumble routine includes six gymnasts performing three separate tumbles in quick succession. The tumbles included were back flips, handsprings and somersaults. The trampette routine involves six gymnasts performing two separate somersaults with different shapes and degrees of rotation or twist from the trampette & one vault using the trampette and vaulting table.
Coach, Rob Walker, said: "There was a great team spirit on the day, everyone competed to their best and had an enjoyable competition. Well done to everyone who took part."
Leeds Esprit Gymnastics Club is run at Hough Top Court. The club offers opportunities in competitive, recreational, pre school and baby gymnastics during term time as well as running school holiday gymnastics camps.
