West Leeds MP John Battle has been honoured by the Pope.
Click here for a full run down of the 20 YEP community sites launched around Leeds to date.The 58-year-old politician – due to step down at the next General Election – has been named a Knight Commander con Placa of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great by Pope Benedict XVI.
The award from the worldwide leader of the Catholic church recognises exceptional services to the church and society.
Mr Battle will be presented with his official insignia at a special mass at Leeds Cathedral tonight by the Rt Rev Arthur Roche, Bishop of Leeds.
The award gives special recognition to Mr Battle's anti-poverty campaigning.
