After outlining the events leading to the charging of Morley, Pauline McCullagh prosecuting, asked for him to be remanded in custody and for the case to be adjourned to Monday when an application is to be made to commit Morley to Leeds Crown Court for trial.

She said any application for bail would be opposed.

Representing Morley, Ian Cook made no application for bail.

Morley, dressed in a light grey tracksuit and with his right hand and arm heavily bandaged, spoke only to confirm his address and age.

He was remanded in custody by the magistrates and the case was adjourned until Monday.
