In particular we love those who help to keep it, and our hearts, tic king. These are people who dedicate their lives to to saving the lives of others. Dave Jones is one of them. The 50-year-old community defibrillation officer, was put forward for praise as part of the YEP’s We Love our NHS campaign . His colleague said he was an unsung hero. He is one of the army of unsung heroes who work tirelessly for others. He said it was the “best job in the world” but we think Dave, and people like him, are the best people in the world. The job must be difficult, tiring, relentless and thankless at times. As much as we like to think it must be rewarding to be in the business of saving lives or making lives, the reality is that pressures, lack of resources, the behaviour of patients, the criticism of the service, all add up to make the job a nightmare. But no matter how stretched, how stressed and how difficult it is, people’s individual experience of the majority of staff who work for our NHS is one of pure admiration. There are many reasons to be critical of our health service and we must continue to question poor decisions at the top. But when it comes down to individual working in healthcare we have nothing but admiration and respect for what they do.
