The initiative isn't just for the children though, the local community can be involved too.

Local people are to be invited to visit the pond and wildlife areas in the school grounds.

A team of volunteers have spent the last few months raising money and drawing up plans for the garden.

And a 23-strong team of volunteers has been busy transforming Summerfield Primary School's green space into an teaching and learning resource.

Mrs Bright, Summerfield Primary School's assistant head teacher told Bramley Today: "We do everything we can to involve the local community in our school activities.

So far we have had IT classes, mums & tots groups, Spanish lessons, DIY classes - otherwise known as 'Men Behaving Dadly'- all sorts. We have wanted to do gardening classes for sometime – but couldn't because our green space was a bit too wild and rugged – it needed clearing up."

Gail Delgado, from O2 in Leeds, said: 'I am so glad that we could help Summerfield Primary School, they are doing amazing work with their community. I do hope that our gardening and landscaping will make a difference."

Awards from £100 to £1,000 are available for ideas which benefit the community or build community spirit.

The programme has now given over £1 million to 1,300 community projects across the UK.
