The 20-strong team of university graduate trainees carried out much needed work to Summerfield Primary by painting the playground and corridors, as well as giving the school logo a fresh lick of paint.

In the run up to the day, University staff held a series of fundraising initiatives including cake sales and raised £176 to buy the materials required for the day's activities.

Headteacher, Karon Wittmann, praised the volunteers hard work.

"The graduate trainees have done a wonderful job repainting the school. Christmas has come early for Summerfield Primary," she said.

Project team leader, Aisling Swindells, said: "The volunteers that took part in Friday's painting challenge made a huge impact on the school and have definitely brightened up the children's working environment."

Graduate Trainees work across the University and complete several short placements working on a range of projects within Leeds Met.

The scheme allows them to study for a postgraduate qualification, whilst equipping them the experience and knowledge to advance both professionally and vocationally.
