Competition: Leeds & District FA League 2

Bramley met Calverley for the third time this season and were hoping to make it three wins out of three against them.

Bramley started with a slightly different line up and opted to play Matty Illingworth on the left hand side of midfield – this almost had an instant effect when he came close to scoring in the first couple of minutes.

Bramley soon got into their passing game and were playing attractive football – they deservedly took the lead when Matty Wheeldon out jumped the Calverley defence and headed home a Gibbo corner. Bramley continued to create chances but were unable to finish them off.

As the first half wore on Calverley started to create their own chances and Bramley had to be thankful that goalkeeper Ryan Friend was on top form when he was called on to make a couple of point blank saves.

Bramley soaked up this pressure and were soon 2 up when Mikey Ash broke through the Calverley defence and coolly slotted home his shot under the advancing Calverley keeper. In the second half Bramley couldn't get back into their pass game, they were defending far too deep and letting Calverley have too much time on the ball – credit to Bramley though they defended in numbers and managed to catch Calverley on the counter attack when Matty Wheeldon latched onto a long clearance and side footed his shot home to put the visitors 3-0 up.

Calverley kept the pressure up and they managed to pull a goal back when a well taken shot from out side the box found the back of the net. Calverley had Bramley on the back-foot and forcing mistakes in the Bramley defence and soon took advantage of this and pulled another goal back. Calverley were now playing with confidence and soon pulled the scores level with a good finish.

Going into the last five minutes the game could have swung either way but it was Bramley who forced the winning goal when Mikey Ash kept his composure in front of goal and swept home his second of the game.
Some great performances and an excellent debut for Jakes Banks who came on in the second half and looked very strong on the right wing.

Team: Ryan Friend, Ross Whittaker, Joe Hirst, Andy Oliver, Jonny Reid, Joe Bamford, Matty Wheeldon, Gibbo, Matty Illingworth, Danny Cawkwell, Mikey Ash, Dean Ash, Danny Waring, Nav Shakia, Stephen Prince, Jake Banks.

Man-of-the-match: Ryan Friend & Matty Wheeldon.
