Referee confirmed for Leeds United v West Brom as Premier League official hangs up boots

The Whites welcome the Baggies to Elland Road for the final outing of the top flight campaign on Sunday afternoon.

Coote will referee Leeds for the fourth time this season and was on VAR duties in midweek at Southampton where he ignored Patrick Bamford's plea for a penalty after the striker opted to stay on his feet under an errant challenge from Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

The Nottinghamshire official was also the man in the middle for both of United's narrow defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and the new year loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the capital.

Coote, though, oversaw the Whites' breaking of the dreaded London curse at Craven Cottage in March where they defeated Scott Parker's Fulham 2-1.

Along with Spurs, Leeds are the team he has taken charge of the most (four) throughout the current Premier League season.

He has handed out 65 yellow cards and three red cards this term along with eight penalties - including two in the same match between Brighton and Southampton.

Coote caused controversy earlier in the campaign as a VAR official, angering Liverpool supporters by failing to punish Jordan Pickford for what would be a season-ending challenge on key defender Virgil van Dijk.

Away from Elland Road, referee Lee Mason will hang up his on-field officiating boots this weekend. Mason took charge of Manchester United's draw with Fulham in midweek in what was his last match action of a 15-year career.

The 49-year-old will become the division's first dedicated VAR official from next season and is on duty on Sunday for Sheffield United's hosting of Burnley at Bramall Lane.

Mason refereed United 5-0 drubbing of this weekend's opponents Albion in the reverse fixture in December.
