Pintura is part of this culinary revolution that has swept across Leeds during the past few years and it leads the way when it comes to tapas, those delicious small sharing dishes we all love so much. Since opening in March 2015, the restaurant, inspired by the food-loving Basque region, has established a reputation for taking traditional recipes and giving them a bold, modern twist. Pintura means “work of art” in Spanish and on its website Pintura claims to paint a unique portrait of Pinxtos and Spanish tapas. The building itself is ingenious, sandwiched in the space between the Marks and Spencer end of the Trinity Centre and nearby Commercial Street. Spread across four floors it is a victory of smart design over limited space. With its bare brick, tiles and smart looking booths it’s an inviting spot for a long lunch or a romantic evening meal. Throw in the fact it’s also home to a basement ‘gin bar’ (the Spanish are among the world’s biggest gin drinkers in the world) and in theory you have a winning recipe.
